Austrian Rudolf Spielmann was born on 5 May 1883 in Vienna. His best World Ranking was 6th (July 1913). He was considered to be one of the best ten players of the world between 1910 and 1920. According to Chessmetrics his peak rating is 2716.

He participated in two Chess Olympiads representing Austria in 1931 and 1935. In 1931 he placed fifth individually and eight with the team. In 1935 he placed sixth and his team seventh.

Interesting facts:

Spielmann was one of the few chess players who could draw a match with Capablanca, what more, he was one of the even fewer, who won more than one game against him.

He died on 20 August 1942 at the age of 59 in Stockholm.
