Najdorf
Polish-Argentinian chess player Miguel Najdorf was born on 15 April 1910 near Warsaw. His first trainer was Dawid Przepriorka and later he learnt from Savielly Tartakower who he referred to as ‘my trainer’. His highest World Ranking is 2nd (in 33 different months between July 1946 and June 1949). He was considered to be one of the best 10 players of the world between 1942 and 1955. According to Chessmetrics his highest rating is 2797. He never won World Champion title.
From 1935 to 1976 he participated in all Chess Olympiads except three (altogether fourteen times). He represented Poland in 1935, 37 and 39 winning two bronze and one silver medal in team. He won his first individual medal, a gold, in 1939. In 1950, 52 and 54 won team silver representing Argentina and individual gold in 1952 and 1954. He won his last medal in 1962, when he won individual silver and team bronze. Altogether he won seven team medals and four individual medals.
He died on 4 July 1997 at the age of 87.
