The Swedish Ulf Andersson was born on 27 June 1951 in Västerås. His World Ranking: N˚3 (in 7 different months between May 1983 and November 1983). According to Chessmetrics his highest rating is 2743. He was considered to be one of the best players between 1981 and 1984. He has not become a world champion and has not played world championship matches either.

From 1970 to 2004 Andersson participated in sixteen Chess Olympiads competing for Sweden. In 1978 he won individual bronze medal. His team could never rank in the first three during this period.

In 1983 he drew a six game match with the former world champion Mikhail Tal.
